| Creating Your Own Monster Truck (or any) Website! |
| Select a hosting service! |
| You'll need a host for your
NEW Monster Truck Website! A free server is a good place to start! Try these! |
| Create Your First Page. |
| If you have Front Page or Front Page Express
use that to start writing your first page. Else check the
Freesite
or Tucows
for a good editor. Try a few different ones! While at the
Freesite
make sure to check the other links for graphics, content,
services and sounds to use on your new Web Page.
Web Pages are writen in HTML! If you need a HTML tutorial or more help try www.tips-tricks.com! This site also features many great links for Webmasters! A simpler tutorial can be found right here! I also found another beginner's HTML and Website tutorial that has a very neat perspective. Neil Bowen has created (and made available to the Web Surfing World) a whole site for under $25.00! Click the Image link below to find out how! And here's Tom Boutell's World Wide Web Frequently Asked Questions (with ANSWERS and tons of links). Or checkout this site. HTML: The Complete Reference |
| Getting Started! |
| Sketch out on paper what you want Your site to look like. Storyboard the site on paper by making rough sketches of each important page. Make a list of services, features and images you want on your page. |
| Can't figure out how to start? |
| Images! |
| Images are either drawn on a program like Paintbrush or scanned from a picture or artwork. Either kind of Image can be mainipulated with a program like Graphics Workshop Pro or the software that came with your scanner or digital camera. |

| OPEN PHOTO LIBRARY |
| HTML file uploading! |
| Now you'll need to get your
new page onto the server! You'll want a FTP client. If you don't already have one, try Tucows again! Never heard of FTP? Check out this Tutorial then consider the Terrapin FTP Browser! |
| Testing your page or hiring someone to check your page! |
| This place (and many others)
will test your new Web Page 0r Web Site. Or I'll be glad to test your new pages and make suggestions for about $35.00 a page! |

| Now read this Top
Fifteen Web Design Mistakes tutorial
then look over your page or site again! Correct it! Spell
Check it! And here are two articles you'll need to read! All web sites have a product, even picture and joke sites deliver images or jokes as their product! If your visitors know what your site is about, what your product is, then you have a good chance of keeping them long enough to present your product! You need to learn the hows and whys of Making a Good First Impression! And I think design tips lists are a must read so read Ed Foster's Top 10 Design Tips list also! Why'd I put this here instead of before you started designing? Because I think it's important to get started first then get something on line! Then you can look at your online effort and make corrections! You'll probably also have friends and family members check your site! The family members are often honest in their appraisals! Sometimes too honest! A good friend will use tact to help guide you to where he thinks you need to be! Both groups are good for you despite the pain of possible disapproval from some! Customer visitors will think these opinions without voicing them! So hearing them will help better your site! |
| Promoting your new Website! | |
| Join a banner Exchange (or a
few)! Microsoft bCentral - Online services for small businesses
Monster Highway's Free Banner Exchange List First off, tell all your friends! All of them! Everybody you correspond with on the Internet and everytime you send a new message. How? Use a signature file with your mail/news reader software! A signature file should contain your name, the name of your Web Site and the URL of Internet address! Here's what mine looks like:
Since my URL sorta says Monster Trucks I usually don't explain the sites purpose with the Site Name or Title (probably a mistake on my part)! The three dashes on the line after my name are a convention from my old BBS days. Most Internet Mail readers just reproduce them but BBS software used those for separating the name from the signature and any other extra info. |
| Here's another
site that explains this same material in a slightly different and even more complete fashion. |
| Sharky's Netscape Frames Tutorial Fun, friendly, five-lesson tutorial transforms the frames newbie into the frames knowbie! Hailed as "completely terrific" by Netscape, "excellent" by PC Week. |
