I was working on a battery testing article for the Monster Truck Trading Center and the Monster Truck Parts List when I got side tracked here. When I need anything for a battery, need some advice or need a battery in Winchester, Va. there's one place I usually check, The Battery Mart. They have just about any battery you'll ever need and can get the rest. The Battery Mart has several brands and kinds of chargers. All the testers, adapters, and know how you'll ever need.

I was checking the Battery Mart site for a load tester when I stumbled on this gadget. Battery Defender Pro 12V 3 Amp This thing is loaded with features and I noticed it was recommended for all automotive batteries including Optima. Now most monster trucks run several batteries in series to get 24volts or even 36volts. And they ain't cheap batteries either.

A lot of trucks don't get run very often or set out a big part of certain seasons and you always see battery chargers running to most every truck a couple hours before a show. Cycling and sulfation is what kills a lot of lead acid batteries prematurely. This Battery Defender is a trickle charger that also has the smarts to reverse the loose sulfation that occurs when you discharge a lead acid battery.

Over charging also kills a lot of batteries. This battery defender has the smarts to know when and when not to charge the battery. It also has short circuit protection for itself and resets automatically if a reverse polarity hookup or direct short occurs.

It might be a wise investment to purchase a set of these for each battery in your monster truck or any vehicle you have. especially if you let your vehicle set for a long time. The light weight means it can be permanently mounted also and there's several different harnesses available to fit most any use.
